The holidays are here and that means lots of travel! And if you want to bring your furry friends with you, there are a few things to keep in mind. Most importantly, make sure you’re making the right decision for your pet. If they won’t do well on a flight, maybe it’s best to leave them with a sitter. Especially for animals with “pushed in” faces, air travel can be quite dangerous.
The Prep Work
Before you start your trip there a few things you’ll need to do to prepare. First, have a conversation with your vet to decide how to have the best flight experience. The vet can tell you if your pup needs any special medications to help with the flight. It’s also a good idea to identify some vets in the area you’re traveling to just in case.
The day before your trip, do as much activity with your pet as you can. This will make them tired so they don’t have too much energy on the flight, and they just might sleep!
You don’t want to forget the necessities when you’re traveling with precious cargo! Here’s a quick checklist.
- Comfortable Travel Carrier
- Baking Soda (for emergency pee stains)
- Identification and any health forms
- His favorite toy for comfort
