Why Is Nail Clipping Important?

Many dog owners may think trimming nails is purely aesthetic, but long nails can actually be extremely damaging to your pet’s health. Your dog should have his nails clipped 1-2 times per month. Lucky for you, we have Jerry the nail clipper in-store every Monday 4-6pm! Walk-ins welcome.

Here are just a few of the reasons nail clipping is important:

  • Nails that are too long can be torn off if they get caught on furniture or carpeting
  • Walking on long nails puts pressure on the nail bed and can ultimately cause damage to the dog’s joints
  • Long nails can affect a dog’s grip on slippery floors, like hardwood and linoleum
  • Long nails can grow into the skin or paw pads, resulting in an infection and pain
